The largest group of respondents work for Large companies (3500+ employees), but a majority work for Small (<400 employees) and Medium-sized (400-3500 employees) companies. From this, it is easy to conclude that usability does not have to be expensive and ponderous. It can integrate into the stereotypically cost-conscious and nimble cultures of Small and Medium-sized companies.
(2) How big is your organization? If you are a consultant, use the size of your typical client.
Small (less than 400)
Medium (400 - 3500)
Large (more than 3500)
If you work for a large company, it is more likely that you will work with both internal and external developers. External developers may not be as familiar with general usability concepts and they certainly will not be familiar with your specific practices, so you will need to have clear rules of engagement and thorough introductory material in order to set expectations.
