The majority of newer teams had well-defined mission
statements. In fact, the proportion of this is roughly equal to teams that
have been in existence for ten years or more. Suffice it to say, teams
have found that if they clearly set out their mission and goals, the success of
their interactions with their developers will increase.
Here are some examples of comments that fell into this category:
I began work 1-1/2 years ago as the first and only usability engineer at this company. I have now hired a 2nd person to work under me and am focusing on building a usability group that can contribute to all aspects of our users' experiences. Our primary functions are to improve the level of usability achieved in our software products and raise the level of
usability awareness throughout the company. But, we are now beginning to contribute to documentation, the corporate web site, and training modules as well.

Our Usability/User Interface (UI) Development Group ensures that users have a positive and productive experience with the products/applications developed. The group is primarily responsible for the design and development of the information structure, navigation, and visual/artistic elements of the company's products/applications.
