Respondents from teams that have been around for 5-10 years overwhelmingly reported well-defined mission statements. There was very little incidence of mission statements that fell into the "no clear definition" category.

Here are some examples of comments that fell into this category:

I consult with clients and work with their team. My responses reflect the makeup of the typical client team. The mission is typically to produce a web-delivered software product.
Major business is quality assurance of usability of web based learning units. Apart from that we do consultancy of external companies who need a first look and hints and tips on usability. We explain usability, show every-day-life examples and then teach them how to improve it. Our job is to write a very general usability handbook, a QM-document for a user centered development process (as ISO 13407 proposes), a styleguide, teaching material, review and test the softwares and write reports to the Project QM.

Well Defined Team	These mission statements enumerate roles and responsibilities, as well as how the UCD team fits into the corporate structure and strategy.
Definition In Progress	These mission statements mainly focus on activities that the team performs or what the members specialize in.
No Clear Definition	These are mission statements which state very little about what the goals of the team are, and might only list the titles of the team members.
